Why Maré?
Maré comes from
Matriarchal Reprogramming
For years, Laura existed in the Patriarchal World Culture (“PWC”) without even realizing it. She even read the fantastic book Full Frontal Feminism as a fairly young woman, but it just did not land - she was in too much denial! 10 years of life experience later, she was drawn inexorably to Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts - it changed her viewpoint and her life forever. Through Mama Gena, Laura (a lifelong dancer) discovered S Factor and a passion was born!
After waking up to the PWC, Laura focused initially on patriarchal deprogramming but then it hit her: what good is de-programming if we leave a vacuum? We have to reprogram with something else! Thus, Matriarchal Reprogramming was born.
Matriarchal Reprogramming does NOT seek to oppress men or patriarchal patterns- it only seeks to rebalance, such that women and matriarchal patterns are viewed as equal, viable alternatives or better still, blended to create a holistic approach that encompasses all aspects of human experience!
Rebalancing is the hallmark of Maré - that is why the Goddess in our logo is holding the scales of justice.
Laura is a polyglot and it tickles her that mar- (or mer-) is a root in many languages (especially Romance ones) for the sea. This even carries over to English - maritime, marine, mermaid. The sea and water have been associated with the divine feminine since time immemorial, way before the PWC! Attached are images of Thalassa, the primordial Greek goddess of the sea, and Yemoja, the Yoruba orisha of water. Tides also long have been associated with the divine feminine, because they are ruled by the moon which rules the feminine cycle. In fact, maré means tide (literally) and opportunity (figuratively) in Portguese. May Maré be the rising tide that lifts all ships and brings new opportunities not just to women, but to us all!
